"Dora" (Lucas) Witherspoon's parents were James G. Y. Lucas and Pauline (Harwell) Lucas.

I used the Medora spelling as opposed to the Madora spelling on her monument

because it was listed in a book where her son J.H. Witherspoon had made a quote using Medora.

Dora had brothers James Y. Lucas (or James B.Y. Lucas or James Y. Lucus) and Matthew G. Lucas.

She had sisters Laura Fletcher "Dot" Lucas Sullivan and Adella Lucas.

Some of my information about this family came from Jean Kennedy.  Thanks Jean!

Some came from the http://www.pegstersfamilytree.com website.  Search under Lucas.  Thanks to them!

Rev. James Hamilton Witherspoon's parents were David (from N. Carolina--born 1758) and Elizabeth (Gordon) Witherspoon.  They married in Kings Mountain, PA on June 16, 1791. Her father was Revolutionary War Captain George Gordon.

Captain David Witherspoon also fought in the Revolutionary War. He was in the battle of Kings Mountain. David's father was John Witherspoon (great grandfather of J.G. Witherspoon--my grandfather). John died September 1778.  John was a lateral descendant (cousin) of Rev. John Knox Witherspoon, President of Princeton University and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  David Witherspoon also had a brother John who died in 1760.  John was also in the battle of King's Mountain.
